Organisational Development & Sustainability

LOOKING INWARD:

We place a strong emphasis on building staff capacity through participation in trainings, conferences, workshops, exposure trips and study circles. We wish to invest in our staff to build their knowledge base and confidence and provide them with spaces to exchange views and enrich themselves.

The nature of the work within Swayam results in emotional stresses experienced by our staff members. For this reason, we have always paid attention and responded to the mental health of all our staff. Case discussion meetings are held regularly between case workers and all staff have access to personal counselling. Personal growth sessions are conducted for staff members to ensure their self-development.

We conduct regular internal and external evaluations of our work in order to improve the quality of our services as well as assessing the organisational development and sustainability. We focus on organisational structure, policies, systems and staff wellbeing. Swayam has created an operational structure where supervision, learning, resource management and decision-making are built into every level.

Theatre encourages and promotes self-expression, co-operation and teamwork. We could see that much of what we were trying to achieve in the support groups could be addressed through the process of theatre itself.
